Инфа о проекте на Гаити
Sadhana Forest has cast its seeds across the seas and our new daughter project has begun, we would like to warmly welcome all who would like to come and share in the creation of this community.
In April 2010, in reaction to the devastation caused by the January 2010 earthquake,
Yorit and Aviram and their daughters Osher and Shalev together with Jamey Ellis,
Hannah Fielder, Jack Webb and David Cohen, started Sadhana Forest Haiti. It is a daughter project to the community in India and shares the same structure and values. The focus of Sadhana Forest Haiti is water conservation, re-forestation and the development of ongoing projects to support the needs of the local community in an environmentally sustainable way, as well as spreading the message of love and human unity.
We practise the same eco-friendly way of life as in Sadhana Forest India, including veganism, organic foods, alternative construction, biodegradable toiletries, compost toilets and solar energy.
We work roughly 5-6 hours a day, 5 days a week, in our small organic vegetable gardens, gathering tree-seeds and casting them on the surrounding mountains in the form of clayballs, water conservation, composting and other tasks to keep our community functioning, such as preparing our vegan, communal meals and collecting water from the well.
The minimum stay in Sadhana Forest Haiti is one month!!! But there is no maximum limit on how long you can stay.
Sadhana Forest is a nonprofit ecological project that does not generate any income. Therefore we have to ask for a food contribution of US$6 per day with which we buy our communal meals. We hope to lower this when we grow more of our own food.
Sadhana Forest is a 100% vegan environment, so we ask volunteers not to bring or eat any non-vegan food in the forest. A vegan is a person who avoids the use of any animal products for nourishment or for any other purpose. Vegans do not eat meat, fish, eggs, dairy (milk) products, honey, or any other animal products. Our primary motivation to be vegans is to reduce animal suffering.
We expect volunteers not to use cigarettes, drugs and alcohol during their entire stay at Sadhana Forest Haiti, whether inside or outside of Sadhana Forest. Sadhana Forest Haiti is a non-smoking community.
We are located in a the town of Anse-a-Pitre, in the southeast of Haiti, situated roughly 1km from the border of the Dominican Republic, the nearest Dominican town, Pedernales, is only about 2-3 km from the border.
There are plenty of shops, pharmacies, internet cafes and restaurants in Pedernales. The nearest hospital is also in Pedarnales. Pedernales is easily accessible from Anse-a-Pitre and we feel safe in our local community.
The easiest way to get to us is to fly to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, then catch one of the local buses to Pedernales and a motorbike taxi to the border, where we will pick you up.
We ask everybody who comes to Sadhana Forest Haiti to bring your own tent and 100% biodegradable toiletries amongst other things.
When you contact us you will recieve all the necessary, updated information.
We are slowly and surely creating our community here, growing vegetables and growing our home, and we are in the very early stages of re-foresting the surrounding hills. If you are feeling inspired and would like to join us, in the spirit of love and human unity all are welcome in Sadhana Forest Haiti. You can contact us via phone and email :
Please remember that Sadhana Forest Haiti requires a minimum commitment of 4 weeks.
